Title: Angelic Conflict part 286: Things of the Spirit - ROM 5:12-21; 8:1-11; .

ROM 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

ROM 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

The final words of verse 6, "the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace," is the declaration that the spiritually minded [literal translation] believer lives an abundant life in victory and triumph and is filled with prosperity and tranquility.

"peace" - eivrh,nh[eirene] = harmonized relationship between God and man [Vine's]. A state of tranquility [Joseph Thayer].

That is soul prosperity. This is the promise of triumph and calm. Peace and not war, but not as the hippies declared. This is the eye of the storm.

Though the AC rages on and the believer often finds himself in chaos, he experiences triumph and calm. It is a heavenly life in an earthly existence.

A mind that is actively set on the things of the Spirit is aggressive towards the spiritual life and offensive rather than just defensive.

A mind that is not actively set upon the things of the Spirit will experience a reactionary life. In other words, an apathetic mind will only react to circumstances and people and will not be ready to respond with the truth.

When an apathetic mind reacts to circumstances there is usually a reaction of mental attitude sin followed by more sins as well as sins of the tongue and overt sin. The apathetic mind then becomes awake to the darkness of sin in his soul and should acknowledge that sin and then turn his mind to the things of the Spirit, without condemnation. However, if the mind soon becomes apathetic again then the cycle soon starts again. This is a reactionary life rather than a life of peace. It is by no means a desire for sinlessness, which is impossible, but a desire to glorify God as the Spirit works through me to apply doctrine to life and circumstances rather than always being late to apply anything because of apathy which results in sleepiness and dullness.

EPH 5:14

Awake, sleeper,

And arise from the dead,

And Christ will shine on you.

1TH 5:6

let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.

1PE 5:6-8

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Is God telling us to be alert for satan or alert to our humility before the will of God? It can certainly apply to both, but we never can know when satan will attack, but we do know the times that we are to humble ourselves before His will and set our minds on the things of the Spirit, because that is all the time.

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

ROM 8:16-17

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also

Transformation to heaven:

ROM 8:23

And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

Prayer:

ROM 8:26

And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words

ROM 15:13

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Cleansed, sanctified, justified:

And such were some of you [unrighteous as unbelievers]; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.\

Therefore I make known to you, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Eternal life does not depend on circumstances or people or even time or what part of time or eternity one would find himself. This life is God's life and is given to the believer so that he may begin his experience in a life that has always been, without beginning and without end.
