How you treat “one another” is how you treat TLJC; John 15:17.

Class Outline:

John 15:17 "This I command you, that you love one another.

"command" - evnte,llomai[entellomai - present middle indicative] = to command, decree, or prescribe. Middle = for the believer's benefit.

All commands are divine prescriptions for the believer's benefit. Each command is designed to prosper the believer's soul out from or apart from the sin and evil of the world system.

The indicative mood shows the reality that the believer is benefited by a loving Lord who is for him and not against him.

"one another" - avllh,lwn[allelon] = each other of the same kind. There is no prejudice in the RFOG.

There are no distinctions of the kind that are in the world in the body of Christ.

Believers are enjoined to love one another;

Serve one another:

GAL 5:13

 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Accept one another:

ROM 15:7

 Wherefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.

Be hospitable to one another:

1 Peter 4:9

Be hospitable to one another without complaint.

Greet one another with a holy kiss:

1 Peter 5:14

Greet one another with a kiss of love. [ROM 16:16; 1Cor 16:20; 2Cor 13:12]

This is not in our culture as it was in that day. Men kissed each other and women kissed each other as a fervent greeting. Shaking hands, bowing, etc. is the equivalent in the proper ways of the culture.

Be devoted to one another:

ROM 12:10

 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;

Live in harmony with one another:

ROM 12:16

Be of the same mind toward one another;

1 Peter 3:8

 To sum up, let all be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;

Bear with one another:

EPH 4:2

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love,

COL 3:13

 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Be kind and compassionate to one another:

EPH 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Carry one another's burdens:

GAL 6:2

Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.

Forgive one another:

COL 3:13

and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.\

Build up one another:

1 Thess 5:11

Therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

Admonish one another:

COL 3:16

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing [warn, caution or reprove gently] one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

The literal translation of the Greek word for admonishing is "placing in the mind." There is no punishment or punitive connotation to this word, so it is not a call to bully one another.

Encourage one another:

1 Thess 4:18

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thess 5:11

Therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

In each of these cases, 'one another' implies "without distinction on the basis of social status or personal preference."

In Paul's time as in our own certain people are outcasts of society, people of low status, or even people of high status who are demonized for their success. Our attitude toward them all is our attitude towards Christ.

This is a part of the Royal Family Honor Code.

ROM 12:16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

ROM 12:17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men.

ROM 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.

ROM 12:19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.

ROM 12:20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head."

ROM 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Matt 25:40 [Tribulational]

"And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

If this is true about born-again Jews in the Tribulation how much more is it true of the bride of Christ?

I have noticed that the HS has set up a pattern as of late:

As you treat your logistical provision

As you treat your given authority

As you treat one another in the body of Christ

... so in this way you treat Christ Himself.

John 15:17 "This I command you, that you love one another.

As we have defined agapan love: A mental attitude impersonal, unconditional love from mature virtue that recognizes the value of an object, producing a self-sacrificial preference and regard for its benefit even if hated. It is without sin and is not motivated by any affection or attraction.

This is the very love that Jesus Christ brought into the world, operated under, and He has graciously given the potential of it to us.

EPH 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

EPH 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

EPH 6:24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with a love incorruptible.

2 Thess 3:5

And may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

2 Tim 1:13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

2 Tim 1:14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure [doctrine and love] which has been entrusted to you.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

We are to live in His love until the Source of it returns to receive us, Jude 20-21.

Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit;

Jude 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
