2Th 2:1-12; A Short Biopic of the Warrior Messiah (Isa 11:1-5).

Class Outline:

Tuesday September 12, 2023

Theme: The Messiah is a warrior who fears the Lord and as a result, is the greatest leader.

We are focusing on the second coming of the Lord this week. We saw on Sunday, the application of His appearing and coming to us today: that we can see Him before we actually see Him by our understanding and living of the truth.

GAL 1:16

was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles,

EPH 3:5

the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed

JOB 42:5

“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear;

But now my eye sees You;”

1JO 1:2

the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life…

We began with the truth that the Lord will appear in more and more real ways in the advancing believer in this age. This is an application of the second coming to us.

The sole purpose for all your learning - to see Christ and to be like Him.

The antichrist is killed and his empire comes to an end when the Lord Jesus comes again at the end of the Tribulation. The empire of the antichrist is the last human, Gentile, kingdom and there will never again be another.

The second coming - The Lord Jesus Christ is going to return to the earth physically, bodily, and visibly on the day that the Tribulation ends.

2TH 2:7-8

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;

The Lord kills him with the word from His mouth. When we look at other Scriptures, we see that this is His sword - the word of God from His mouth.

ISA 11:4b

And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,

And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

The Lord Jesus is the Lion of Judah. He is a warrior when He comes to earth the second time. What kind of warrior is He?

As a slain Lamb, He is able to open the seals on the Book of Revelation, which brings judgment upon the earth.

REV 5:5-6

“Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”

6 And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain…

He is not the typical warrior.

ISA 11:3

And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,

This fear of the Lord will manifest itself in His qualities.

Back to vs. 1 to gather it all in context.

ISA 11:1

Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,

And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

The analogy of a vine is the eternal prosperity of the Lord - He will bear fruit, and He will graft us in and by His power, we will bear fruit (Joh 15).

To the contrary, the antichrist and his kingdom will be a destroyed tree.

MAL 4:1

“the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the Lord of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

ISA 11:2

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,

The spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The spirit of counsel and strength,

The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

Qualities from obedience and the Holy Spirit.

The warrior Messiah is filled with the Spirit.

Wisdom                           Understanding.

Counsel (advisement)    Strength.

Knowledge                      Fear of the Lord.

Think about how all of these are needed for leadership.

Wisdom is personified and speaking in Pro 8:

PRO 8:14-15

“Counsel is mine and sound wisdom;

I am understanding, power is mine.

By me kings reign,

And rulers decree justice.”

Strength and wisdom are needed for leadership.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

PRO 8:12-13

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,

And I find knowledge and discretion.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;

Pride and arrogance and the evil way

And the perverted mouth, I hate.”

PRO 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;

Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

PRO 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

PRO 15:16

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord

Than great treasure and turmoil with it.

PRO 15:33

The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom,

And before honor comes humility.

PRO 19:23

The fear of the Lord leads to life,

So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.

PRO 22:4

The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord

Are riches, honor and life.

PRO 23:17

Do not let your heart envy sinners,

But live in the fear of the Lord always.

The fear of the Lord leads to all of these good things.

This is why the Lord Jesus is a great warrior. As God He is immutably omnipotent, and as Man, He fears the Lord (Yahweh).

ISA 11:3

And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,

He is a warrior who fears the Lord.

Contrast Him to the antichrist who seeks to elevate himself above all gods and call himself the God.

The Lord, the warrior Lion of Judah, is also the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. The Lord Jesus, the warrior, gives to His own.

Contrast to the antichrist who is lawless, exalts himself and takes from his own.

The warrior Messiah also has the right to judge.

ISA 11:3-4

And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,

And He will not judge by what His eyes see,

Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

4 But with righteousness He will judge the poor,

And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth;

And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,

And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

Notice His judgment is according to divine law, to the word of God, and not appearance and rumor (eyes and ears).

JOH 12:48

“He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”

Hence, the sword will come from His mouth.

There will be no faking or hiding. He is the champion of those who have been unjustly affected by the wicked (poor and afflicted of the earth).

Christ and antichrist.

Fear of the Lord     Elevates self above all.

Gives to His            Takes from his.

Judges eternally

And justly               Judges unfairly and is judged.

Eternal kingdom    3.5 year kingdom.

The warrior Messiah will judge the entire earth justly and in righteousness, which is His belt and breastplate.

ISA 11:5

Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins,

And faithfulness the belt about His waist.

ISA 59:16-18

And He saw that there was no man,

And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;

Then His own arm brought salvation to Him,

And His righteousness upheld Him.

17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,

And a helmet of salvation on His head;

And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing

And wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.

18 According to their deeds, so He will repay,

Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies;

To the coastlands He will make recompense.

His armor is righteousness, faithfulness, salvation, vengeance (not in ours), zeal, and His sword (word from His mouth).

His Holy Spirit, His Word, and His armor - He gave all of it to us.

Are you using them?

Are you cherishing them?

Are you pursuing the skill of them that you will see Him?
