Title: Kingdom of God, Part 7: The Mediatorial Kingdom in Revelation.Sunday September 20, 2026
Intro:
The Mediatorial kingdom is the rule of God through a divinely chosen representative who not only speaks and acts for God but also represents the people before God. It has special reference to the earth and the mediatorial ruler is a member of the human race.
In every stage of God’s mediatorial kingdom, history has been teaching two things: no one but God can make this world right, and there is no question that He will.
Why has it taken so long?
Psa 89:46 How long, O Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever?
Luk 12:49-50 "I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 "But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
God is patient. In every age He is inviting many in.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But at some point it has to end or the final, fulfilled form of the kingdom will never come.
Part 1: Pre-kingdom judgment.
In Jer 32, Jeremiah buys a field. There was a sealed deed and an open copy and both were placed in a jar.
In the same way the Lord is about to take possession of the earth for His kingdom. The scroll that the Lord takes from the Father (Rev 5:7) is written on both sides (a side that can be seen and one unseen).
Per Jeremiah’s example: The open copy of this document is in your hands. It is the prophets.
Rev 10:6-7 [after all 7 seals have been broken] there will be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He preached to His servants the prophets.
The world had rejected the plan of the Father for salvation, the Savior, and the revealer, God the Holy Spirit. At this future time, God will give them a wicked Trinity: Satan, the Beast, and the False Prophet.
The 7 seals:
Rev 6:1-2 Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, "Come." 2 I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
This is the antichrist who will first conquer so that he can take his lofty position as world ruler.
This is all the hand of God.
2Th 2:6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
When the seventh seal is broken, the seven trumpets are sounded: all terrible judgment from God.
The seventh trumpet is the sound of the end.
Rev 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.”
This is just before the Beast achieves his greatest strength (not after).
Psa 139:11-12 If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night," 12 Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.
War in heaven ensues, and the great protector of Israel, Michael defeats the satanic army and they are thrown down to earth.
Rev 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, 8 and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
Rev 12:12 “Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”
In Rev 13 the Beast and False Prophet rise to their ultimate position of power over the world.
But reading Rev 10-12, we know that the efforts of the false, wicked Trinity are doomed from the start.
Heb 1:1-2 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
Finally, with the seven bowls the wrath of God is finished (Rev 15:1)
Rev 15:3-4 And they sang the song of Moses, the bond-servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,
"Great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God, the Almighty; Righteous and true are Your ways, King of the nations! 4 "Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For ALL THE NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU, FOR YOUR RIGHTEOUS ACTS HAVE BEEN REVEALED."
Babylon, the great city that was the flagship of false kingdoms, is destroyed in an hour.
Rev 18:21-24 Then a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, "So will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer. 22 "And the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft will be found in you any longer; and the sound of a mill will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery. 24 "And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints and of all who have been slain on the earth."
Their gaiety rose up while they were knee deep in the blood of the saints. God’s songs are about things never fade away.
Part II. His Kingdom Comes.
In contrast to the silence from the smoking city of Babylon, in heaven, the Hallelujah chorus (made up of all those martyred saints, the church, the angels) is singing with the volume turned all the way up. It is the beginning of the marriage of the Lamb.
The Arrival of the King (again). [Bookends the final Book]
Rev 1:7 BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him,
Rev 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."
He returns as He ascended: personally, visibly, gloriously, powerfully, and with a host of angels.
It would be inconceivable that the Lamb’s wife would not be with Him. \
This central event concerns that same agreement between the sealed scroll and its copy:
Rev 19:10 For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
The beast is defeated (Rev 19:17-21), Satan is bound (Rev 20:1-3), and Christ establishes His literal 1,000 year reign on the earth on David’s throne. Others are on thrones ruling with Him (Rev 20:4) which by the context of the book points to their identity being the church (24 elders in Rev 4:4).
Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. [KJV]
The first resurrection: all the saints going into the Millennial reign.
“1,000 years” occurs 6 times in Rev 20:2-7. In Scripture, repetition like this is used to indicate importance. The mentions are bookended by the binding and losing of Satan.
But this is not the end of the Mediatorial reign of Christ. Satan will be released and Jesus must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy is death (1Co 15:25-26) and not Satan.
His 1000 year reign will be legal (judgment; 20:4), priestly (20:6), and regal (reigning; 20:6).
Conclusion / Application:
The victory of Christ and the establishment of His righteous rule on earth is certain.
We do not make the kingdom, but our lives show its culture:
If the heart of God is to establish perfect justice and peace we should be working towards the same.
Col 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
God works in us to produce His works through us.
The Millennial Reign completes its one thousand years and the Mediatorial reign is consummated.
The final judgment follows (Great White Throne) and the unbeliever is judged. No believer stands here (“He believes on Him in not judged” Joh 3:18).
The purpose of the Mediatorial Kingdom will have been fulfilled.
1Co 15:23-26 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming, 24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
The two thrones of Mediator and Father will become one.
Rev 22:3-5 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
This is not an end, but a beginning. Up to this point, you have been but an infant.
Rev 22:20-21 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
