Sanctification enjoys an intimate and mechanical relationship with God; John 15:10

Title: Sanctification enjoys an intimate and mechanical relationship with God; John 15:10.

John 15:9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.

How do I continue to abide in His love?

John 15:10"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

Our Lord protected and guarded His doctrine so that He would make it to the cross in impeccability and subsequently endure the cross.

The pressure of resistance to opposition is not felt by those who give in to the opposition. The reversionists in the Jerusalem church gave in and so the writer challenges them to re-start the resistance.

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work.

John 5:30 "I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

John 7:16 Jesus therefore answered them, and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

John 8:28 Jesus therefore said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.

John 8:29 "And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him."

John 8:42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me; for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.

John 12:49 "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me commandment, what to say, and what to speak.

John 14:10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

Ps 40:7-8 [Heb 10:7]

Then I said, "Behold, I come;

In the scroll of the book it is written of me;

I delight to do Thy will, O my God;

Thy Law is within my heart."

John 17:4 "I glorified Thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which Thou hast given Me to do

John 18:11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, "Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?"

Rom 15:3

For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached Thee fell upon Me."

We return to another account of the prayer in Gethsemane leading us to more insight into “are you able to drink the cup that I will drink?”

Mark 14:36

 And He was saying, "Abba! Father! All things are possible for Thee; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what Thou wilt."

’Abba[Abba] – originally used primarily by infants denoting a childlike endearing and tender relationship of trust.

Abba – John 5:20 – “the Father loves the Son,” filei[philei – present active indicative] = the Fatherly tenderness with which the Father loves the Son.

 “Father!” – path,r[pater] – authority, protector, provider, head of household, teacher. Not endearing and tender but authority and provider.

John 3:35 – “the Father loves the Son,” avgapa[agapa – present active indicative] = the greatness of the Son whom the Father honors by His love as the relationship of a Master and a Servant.

In the Gemara (a Rabbinical commentary on the Mishna, the traditional teaching of the Jews) it is stated that slaves were forbidden to address the head of the family by the title “Abba.”

I expound on this a bit because of our cry:

Rom 8:12  So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh —

Rom 8:13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die [temporal death – life in the kosmic system in reversionism]; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body [rebound and spiritual growth through continued PVTD], you will live.

Rom 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Rom 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

We have a dual relationship with the Father. Abba – philein love in relationship of tenderness of Father to sondaughter. Pater – agapan love in relationship of Master to servant in fulfilling commands.

A healthy relationship with God requires both loves and consistent doctrinal intake will develop both. Too much of one and not enough of the other will create instability in your relationship with God.

Too much Abba without pater will produce a relationship based on emotion only. Too much pater without Abba and your relationship will be dry and cold. God is worthy and worthy is taken from the Greek word that means balance.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Rom 8:17 and if children, heirs also [position], heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [experience], if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.

Our relationship makes us heirs and our relationship makes us the target of all opposition against God’s grace plan in the sphere of love and as such we will be the target of undeserved suffering.

John 15:10"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

By having the desire and motivation to do the Father’s will the Lord consistently resided in the sphere of the Father’s agape love with all the characteristics we have so far defined.

 “and abide in His love.” – Jesus Christ never left the sphere of the Father’s love. He was always residing in the plan of the Father for His life.

Remember, the “just as” means that this is to be the goal of every believer with the provision of the rebound technique.

And before we leave this verse we see that verses nine and ten command us to do something that only the believer can do.

At the moment of faith in Christ the believer is baptized by God the Holy Spirit and he is entered into union with Christ.

This action by God, which can be done through the completed work of Christ who satisfied the justice of God through becoming a man and taking death upon Himself so that our old nature would die and our new nature would be born, separates the believer from the world, the dominion of the KOD, and the OSN.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit sanctifies the believer who is at that moment set apart from the world, becoming a member of the body of Christ and the Church.
